Spirits manufacterer Isle of Barra Distillers is submitting plans for a whisky and gin distillery on the Scottish island, which will create 30 new jobs. A planning application is being submitted in May for the new development. Once operational, the distillery should create at least 30 new jobs for the Scottish Islands' economy. Isle of Barra Distillers promise to build the plant using sustainable materials and power it with renewable energy, joining many other Highlands and Islands companies in adopting sustainable practices. The company is also attempting to limit the number of visitors driving to the site with a green travel plan. Isle of Barra Distillers expects the new facility to open in spring 2023 once the development is approved.
