Argyll and Bute Construction Skills Demonstration Roadshow

The Make it Smart Hub officially went on the road at the Argyll and Bute Construction Skills Demonstration Roadshow

As part of a Construction Skills Demonstration Roadshow, the Make it Smart Hub has recently toured Argyll and Bute. In partnership with Argyll & Bute Council CARS officers & DYW (Developing Young Workforce) Argyll & Bute, CODAEH, National Federation Roofing Contractors, IRT Scotland and Stone Federation Great Britain, the roadshow provided training sessions in roofing and stonemasonry to the next generation of workers while also demonstrating the use case of modern technology in the sector.

We demoed our recently unveiled equipment BLK 360 Scanner and our virtual reality suite, which is available for free to SMEs in the Highlands and Islands. The events were delivered in Lochgilphead, Dunoon, Rothesay and Helensburgh.

John McKinney, Scotland Regional Manager,  the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, says: "The Make it Smart Hub joined other key stakeholders in the Scottish construction industry to promote the diversity of careers within the sector to young people in Argyll & Bute during the week commencing 9 May 2022. We promoted trades with the NFRC and SFGB providing mini-masterclasses in roofing and stonemasonry respectively while the Make it Smart Hub and CODAEH demonstrated the role technology has in the modern construction industry. The feedback from the schools has been very positive and we hope to return to continue to raise the profile of potential careers in the sector so the next generation of Argyll & Bute tradespersons and construction professionals repair, maintain and build the future built environment in the area."
